Most people think of the word "diet" for low cost and weight loss. Generally, however, this refers to a diet that is tailored to a specific physical need.
Who needs to diet like this?
Balanced diets are developed for persons who have a special need for nutrients and energy supply due to a disease, because of a certain functional restriction of an organ or because of special physical circumstances. These can be people with metabolic disorders, but also other patients, such as cancer patients, or those in need of care who have problems with normal food intake.
What does a "balanced diet" look like?
For the most part, balanced diets are drinking foods that are designed to meet the full daily needs of the affected population, taking into account specific nutritional needs.
The word "balance" (bilancia (ital./lat.) = Libra, hence the word "balance") is intended to express that the diet is balanced with the needs and requirements of the organism. "Soll und Haben" come to a balance, the "balance is right".
Basically, complementary balanced diets - preferably as part of a nutritional plan - must be taken with other foods to ensure adequate energy and nutrient supply. That is why supplementary balanced diets are sometimes called "partially balanced diets".
