Scintigraphies at a glance

Scintigraphies at a glance

In a nutshell - the most important scintigraphies at a glance:

Herzbinnenraumszintigrafie

Indication:

  • Review of pumping performance in chemotherapy with cardiac-damaging drugs
  • Determination of the time of operation for a specific valve defect (aortic insufficiency) or cardiac function prior to heart transplantation

duration:

  • 2-3 hours

Note:

  • Is hardly done anymore (but rather ultrasound or magnetic resonance tomography)

Myokardperfusionsszintigrafie

Indication:

  • Circulatory disorders (CHD)

duration:

  • Up to 5 hours (because late shots are only taken after about 4 hours)

Note:

  • Sober (especially no coffee)
  • Discontinuation of medications that affect blood circulation (after consultation with the doctor)

bone scan

Indication:

  • Especially for screening in tumors whose metastases often settle in bone, eg breast, prostate, lung, thyroid cancer
  • Inflammation and other alteration of bones and joints
  • Suspected loosening or infection of prostheses (eg in the hip)
  • Circulatory disorders of the bone

duration:

  • 2-5 hours (early shooting within the first 10 minutes, late shooting after a few hours, as it takes a long time for the substance to be absorbed into the bones)

Note:

  • Drink plenty and often empty the bladder to reduce radiation exposure to the urinary bladder

Perfusion scintigraphy, ventilation scintigraphy

Indication:

  • pulmonary embolism
  • Estimation of regional lung function before lung surgery eg in tumors

duration:

  • 30-60 minutes

Note:

  • In bronchial asthma previously bronchodilator drug

Nierenfunktionsszintigrafie

(Renal excretion scintigraphy, renal perfusion scintigraphy) Indication:

  • Narrowing of the renal arteries
  • Renal body disease (link to "glomerulonephritis")
  • Scars, malformations
  • Disorders of the urinary tract
  • Before kidney surgery in tumor
  • Review of renal function in chemotherapy with kidney-damaging drugs and after kidney transplantation

duration:

  • 45-60 minutes

Note:

  • Drink a lot first (> 500 ml liquid)

Static kidney scintigraphy

Indication:

  • in atypical situation or malformations of the kidneys
  • Suspected kidney injury
  • Suspected kidney tuberculosis

duration:

  • 15-30 minutes

Note:

  • Application rather rare

thyroid scintigraphy

Indication:

  • Assessment of thyroid structure
  • Clarifying an abnormality in an ultrasound scan
  • To prepare a radioiodine therapy

duration:

  • 20 minutes

Note:

  • The intake of iodine-containing medications (eg contrast media) must be at least 4 weeks ago
  • Before, the current hormone levels in the blood are determined

Suppressionsszintigrafie

Indication:

  • Otherwise not to be clarified suspicion of an autonomous adenoma

duration:

  • 45 minutes

Note:

  • The intake of iodine-containing medications (eg contrast media) must be at least 4 weeks ago
  • Before, the current hormone levels in the blood are determined
