Breastfeeding: right nutrition

Enjoyable food and quiet time-outs of the family and the profession during breastfeeding, even chices appearance can best be reconciled with breastfeeding.

Some women abstain from breastfeeding because they want to return to work as soon as possible. Again, there is advice and help: It takes about 6-8 weeks, until mother and child have adjusted to each other. After that, a familiar person can also take care of the baby and feed her with pumped milk. For mother, father and child, however, the offer of parental leave applies. Professional commitments can safely be postponed for a few months.

The right nutrition for nursing mothers

Nursing mothers can eat what they get. There may be three cups of coffee and six cups of black tea a day. However, there are also very nervous babies; It may make sense to give up caffeinated drinks for a while.

Every mother should watch her child carefully to find out what is good for him and what does not. For example, if a child reacts with a rash, it can help to simply omit a suspicious food and see if things are going better.

Additional energy and nutrient requirements during lactation

The additional energy demand can be determined from the energy content of breast milk and from the energy used in the production of milk constituents. A nursing mother consumes about 650 kcal more than a non-breastfeeding, non-pregnant woman of the same age and weight.

Today it is believed that 400 to 500 kcal of food and the rest of the built up during pregnancy fat reserves should come. This would result in an additional requirement of around 500 kcal. The additional protein requirement is covered by a daily additional intake of about 15 g of protein. Overall, a protein intake of 63 g protein per day is recommended, which corresponds to an increase of about 30 percent.
