Frozen ponds invite you to skate in winter when it is cold enough. If this is too bumpy or too tricky, you can dodge in one of the many ice rinks. Whether outdoors or indoors: Ice skating is the perfect combination of sport and fun - for the whole family. Children learn especially fast.
Not so easy to learn
However, the thing is a little catchy: It looks easier than it is. It takes not just patience, but above all, a degree of frustration tolerance, to glide over the ice halfway. On the one hand, you end up often on the backside, on the other hand friends and relatives like their own inability to compensate with taunts. Incidentally, inline experience is helpful.
Fitness factor when skating
Apart from the risk of injuring yourself in a fall, ice skating is a healthy sport. Those who pull their tracks evenly over a longer period of time strengthens the heart and circulation and burns some fat on the side. With appropriate technique and intensity, the muscles on the buttocks and thighs are also trained. Interesting for children: Ice skating trains balance, body control and coordination.
Warm clothes and skates as a base
All you need is urge to move, warm clothes and a pair of matching skates. The latter can also be borrowed - at least in ice rinks. Cost: between 2 and 5 euros.
Safety while skating
Particular care should be taken when not walking in the hall, but on a frozen natural water. The rule is: only enter ice rinks if they are officially released. In order to prevent falls from falling, knee and elbow protectors, if necessary even a helmet, are recommended for children.
