Actually, the acid-base balance of the human body is balanced. But in case of wrong lifestyle, the interaction can get out of balance. Malaise, depression or even physical illness can be the result.
Acid, base and pH
There are acids and bases in the human body. Acid always contains free, positive hydrogen ions (H +). In a base, on the other hand, the negatively charged particles consisting of one hydrogen and one oxygen (OH -) predominate. The acid or base content is indicated by the pH. The concentration of hydrogen ions is measured. The scale ranges from 0 to 7 in the acidic range, from 7 to 14 in the basic range. At a pH of 7, positively and negatively charged particles are in equilibrium.
Depending on the organ, there are different pH values in the body. In the stomach it is very sour - here is produced hydrochloric acid. Saliva and duodenum also have basic values. Only in the blood is the pH constant at 7.4. The acid-base balance of the blood is regulated by a sophisticated system, because even minor deviations can lead to serious organ damage.
Acids always occur in the body when protein is digested. With every energy process in the body cells, carbon dioxide is released. Too little exercise ensures that the acids formed can not be removed and are deposited, inter alia, in the connective tissue. However, there are also genetically or disease-related disorders of the acid-base balance, for example, a limited functioning of the base-controlling organs such as pancreas, gallbladder or liver. Gastric and kidney diseases can also lead to hyperacidity.
Take a deep breath!
The body uses three control mechanisms to keep the acid-base balance stable. Excess acid is excreted through the kidneys. So-called pH buffers in the blood ensure that the body remains intact in the event of sudden changes in acidity.
Finally, the exhalation of carbon dioxide ensures that the ph value is regulated. The respiratory center in the brain and lungs can control the pH of the blood by the minute, adjusting the depth and speed of the breath. With increased breathing, the carbon dioxide content of the blood decreases and it becomes alkaline. As the breathing becomes flatter, the carbon dioxide content of the blood increases and it becomes acidic.
Gout and Co.
Some diseases that are due to acid-base disorders have long been known. The best known is certainly gout. Gout is caused by the accumulation of uric acid crystals in the joints, which then become inflamed and painful.
Gout is considered a pronounced affliction, because the uric acid excess comes from the protein metabolism. Uric acid is produced when meat is broken down. Alcohol also contributes to it. In vegetarians, however, gout is almost unknown, although legumes such as peas and lentils are unfavorable for the production of uric acid. It is conceivable that vegetable proteins do not burden the body as much as animal ones.
Gout is more likely to be attributed to the diseases of connective tissue and joints, even if there are specific dietary recommendations for gout sufferers. In medicine, the idea that a chronic hyperacidity in the wrong way of life is possible and harmful, is slow.
Even without gout or the predisposition to a constant subliminal acidity contributes to the fact that one feels uncomfortable or ill. Too many acids can accumulate in the connective tissue and, for example, significantly impair the blood circulation there. Once the storage space in the connective tissue has been exhausted, the acids in the joints are deposited. This includes muscle tension, back and neck pain among the clearest symptoms. Frequent heartburn, gastritis, constant fatigue or sleep disorders can be a sign of hyperacidity.
In the longer term, only a consistent change in diet will help. The aim is to create a balance between acid- and base-forming foods. For this it is important to get an overview of the different properties of the different foods.
Basically, one differentiates four groups of foods
So-called base suppliers such as:
- Raw milk and cheese
- Brown sugar
- still mineral waters
- most herbs
Neutral foods keep the balance between acids and bases. This includes:
- pressed oils
- tap water
The acid generators include foods that themselves contain no acids, but which cause acids during metabolism.
- Sugar and sugary confectionery
- Bread and rolls of white flour
- Pasta, rice
- black tea, if he has pulled less than a minute
The last group is made up of the acid suppliers, who provide an excess of acidic minerals:
Well chewed is half digested
As a rule, we feed ourselves too sour. This unhealthy diet is exacerbated by the fact that many foods and foods are eaten too quickly and not properly chewed. Because the digestion actually begins with the chewing in the mouth. The salivary fluid is basic and when thoroughly chopping the food, a corresponding amount of saliva is formed. Acids can be better metabolized and excreted.
In addition, the mixture of half-digested and undigested causes heartburn and hyperacidity in the stomach. In part, so-called fermentation gases in the intestine, because even here food must be digested. So if you want to prevent the so-called acid starvation in the body, it should be largely to feed on basic foods and chew well.
Basenbildner keep young
Meanwhile, the acid-base balance has also found its way into anti-aging therapy. If you want to stay young longer, recommend the doctors to a diet change with acid-base steering. A lot of exercise, which supports the removal of toxins from the body then belongs as well as the renunciation of a late supper, in order to avoid the formation of fermentation gases. "Dinner-Canceling" is the new buzzword of anti-aging therapy after "hyperacidity". Good Appetite!
