Since the end of the nineties quality assurance and quality management (QMS) are also an important topic in the pharmacy. Although participating in quality management for pharmacies is voluntary, only certified pharmacies may advertise with the appropriate seal.
Two-level quality management program
A quality management program for pharmacies consists of two stages. The first step, the qualification, includes all steps to install a QMS. The actual certification then checks the quality and its ongoing assurance and improvement towards the customers and all cooperation partners of the pharmacy in the health service.
What does quality assurance mean in the pharmacy?
First of all, the absence of the certification mark does not mean that the pharmacy concerned is qualitatively "inferior". Conversely, the sticker indicates that the pharmacy management and all employees have undertaken to carry out their activities in accordance with the requirements of the quality management program.
This is to ensure that all pharmaceutical, organizational, commercial and technical activities that affect the quality of services in the pharmacy are planned, carried out, monitored and improved in accordance with these requirements.
High quality even higher
Although pharmacies already have high quality standards, for example due to the pharmacy company regulations, the Federal Chamber of Pharmacists and state pharmacies are pushing for further documentation and verification of the services provided in the pharmacies. Background of the quality assurance measures is the consideration, which leads a systematic documentation and standardization of the pharmacy services to higher quality and efficiency of the pharmacies.
Since according to §§ 137 ff. Of the Fifth Social Code (SGB V) all top performers in the health sector are committed to quality assurance, the professional organization of pharmacists offers a model statute for the quality management of German pharmacies. It states, among other things, that the purpose of certification
- the guarantee and continuous improvement of the high quality of the proper supply of the population with medicines,
- Ensuring and improving the quality of advice on medicines, especially in self-medication,
- increasing drug safety, also in terms of consumer and patient protection,
- the introduction and further development of the pharmaceutical care of patients as well
- the consequent further development of a professionally high professional practice in health professional responsibility.
