Calories in the fruit: a matter of recovery

Calories are not present in fruits - this is basically correct if you use fruits in their original form. Actually, many types of fruit are the same when it comes to the number of calories in the fruit itself.

As far as calories are concerned, fruit such as bananas or grapes, which offer more than 70 calories per 100 grams, is the top 90-calorie banana among fruit varieties. Few calories under the fruit peel are fruits such as blackberries, strawberries or honeydew melon. In dried form, the thing looks a bit different again. Dried fruits exceed the calorie count many times over untreated fruit. For example, a dried apricot has 250 calories per 100 grams. For comparison, the original only brings about 40 calories to the energy balance.

What happens when drying with the fruits?

The solution is very simple: dehydration changes the fructose concentration under the skin. Fruits can be dried in the oven or in the fresh air. The dry fruit is ready when it has been deprived of up to 80 percent water. The valuable ingredients of conventional fruits are left in compressed form. Dextrose, fructose, minerals, fiber and of course vitamins.

However, the latter lose their original power during the drying process. Another advantage of dried fruits: they last longer. Due to the dehydration the microorganisms and the bacteria lack the basis of life. With careful drying, the fruits can be kept for up to one year. Since dried fruit consists of 70 percent sugar, they are able to provide the body with a lot of energy in a short time.

This is due to the increased number of calories in the fruit. Athletes swear by the powerhouses. And they are a real alternative to other sweets like chocolate or candies - since they only hide about half the calories behind their fruit peel. Compared to the sweet heavyweights, they also provide fiber, vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals. Even fruit from the cans comes with a higher number of calories.

The calories in the canned fruit come mainly from the added sugar. Due to the processing of the preserved fruit, unfortunately, a large number of vitamins are left behind - apart from the preservatives.


The calories in the fruit are the least when we consume it as we get it from Mother Nature.
