Iberogast® for gastrointestinal complaints

Iberogast® is a herbal medicine used to treat gastrointestinal complaints. Iberogast® is composed of nine medicinal plants and is said to be effective against stomach aches, bloating, bloating, gastrointestinal spasms, heartburn and nausea. Also in diseases such as irritable bowel syndrome, irritable stomach or gastritis Iberogast® should help. Side effects are to be considered in principle.

Iberogast® for stomach ache and heartburn

Iberogast® is made up of the bitter sandflower (Iberis amara), angelica roots, chamomile flowers, caraway fruits, milk thistle fruits, lemon balm leaves, peppermint leaves, celandine and licorice root. Through this interaction with active ingredients, this gastrointestinal drug is not targeted against certain stomach problems such as ulcers or nausea, but generally provides a balanced feeling in the gastrointestinal tract.

Because it is a purely herbal product, it is also suitable for infants and long-term treatments. During pregnancy and lactation Iberogast® may also be taken after consultation with a doctor.

Iberogast®: dosage and application

Iberogast® is available only in liquid form and is taken as a drop. The liquid should be shaken before use. Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, adults take 20 drops of Iberogast® three times a day before eating. The drug should be mixed with a little liquid. For children from six to 12 years, the manufacturer recommends 15 drops three times a day, and ten drops for children from three to five years.

Side effects of Iberogast®

Even if the herbal supplement Iberogast® is available without prescription in the pharmacy, it is still not completely harmless. Thus, Iberogast® can cause very rare side effects such as rash, itching, breathing difficulties and nausea. If these side effects occur, the use of Iberogast® should be stopped and a doctor should be consulted. Interactions with other medicinal products or with food and drink are unknown.

For side effects and risks read in doubt always the leaflet and ask your pharmacist or doctor. However, Iberogast® contains 31 percent alcohol, which patients should consider. Comparable preparations which may alternatively be considered are, for example, Laxoberal® and Rennie® chewable tablets.
