Concentration, feeling and a lot of fresh air - that's what makes the boom sport golf among others. You can learn it at any age and with almost any wallet. It's easy to start playing golf: just look in the business directory or the internet for the nearest golf course and ask for a taster course.
Golf for beginners
Two practice lessons cost about 20 euros and the first appointment on the range - as the practice part of the golf course in the English motherland of sports - enough comfortable clothing and sports shoes. Rackets and balls are provided naturally.
"I am John, " introduces our "pro" of the four-headed beginner crowd. "Pro" stands for Professionel, he is a professional player and has a teaching diploma. He also has a low "handicap" - that is, he creates the 18-hole course with relatively few strokes.
We start at the so-called driving range, where the discounts are practiced. Signs mark distances up to 250 meters and more. The lawn is littered with little white golf balls.
First, John shows us how to hold a bat. The rest is supposedly done the right momentum. "Ideally, you always perform the same movements with a continuous impact, while you vary the distance and altitudes only with the right club."
While we are more or less clenching our fingers together, the pro prepares us for the first shot: "With this first contact, you realize whether the great feeling and the fun are there, or whether you prefer to turn your head to other activities. " Then he demonstrates how we should ideally go far out, hit the ball at some point on the ball and stand at the end of the movement again with strongly bent arms and the bat behind the head to pursue the Fugbahn.
We beginners try the deductions with a medium 7-iron. In the game, you would also use it for mid-range strikes. The ball is put on a "tee", a small plastic stick - and then off. As expected, some attempts move more ground than the ball and some badly hit balls chug only ten, twenty yards. But then it happens: The swing feels fluid and light, a rich "Zack" when ball contact signals a direct hit.
Somewhere between 100 and 150 meters the ball lands. A very good distance with a 7-iron - and what a feeling! "The nice thing about golf is that even beginners can make top shots, " says John. And he promises: "To the right feeling, when the ball flies 150 to 200 meters through the air at the right angle for about two seconds, golfer hunt constantly."
After some attempts to move the balls towards the hole over a short distance, we practice the actual puttering or "putting": stand straight up and imagine that the ball rolls on a railroad track to the hole.
At the grass, at least, it is not that most of the balls later go wrong or stay in front of the hole: The putting green seems to be mowed with the shaver and is without blemish at most seven millimeters high.
For learning, some hours of training at the Pro recommend, each cost about 25 to 75 euros. Training is needed anyway, if you want to achieve the "handicap". Only those who are no danger and no obstacle for themselves and others more, may on the courts.
Important also: always warm up before the first tees, so that you do not get stressed during your swing attempts. Otherwise, you will be warm on an 18-hole course anyway, because it covers up to twelve kilometers. One reason why you should not save on comfortable golf shoes.
If you start seriously, you still need a racket set, which is in the best case for around 200 euros. With handicap you can become a member of a golf club for an annual fee of 350 to 1500 euros (or more) per year.
It is just cheaper for beginners and little players to secure by a membership in the Association of free golfers for 195 euros annual fee the right to play on about 800 systems of members of the German Golf Association. Then you only have to pay the usual guest fee per round, the so-called green fee.
