Different visual zones of a common vision goggle
In addition to dioptres and cylinders, a large number of other parameters are incorporated into the spectacle lens calculation when manufacturing individualized progressive lenses. This includes, for example, the design of the various viewing zones of a progressive lens, which is tailored to the wearer.
In the lower part of a progressive lens is the vision correction for the near and for reading. In addition, a typically quite narrow range for seeing at medium distances is incorporated. In the upper part of the glass, vision is corrected in the distance. The different zones merge into each other - hence the name of the glass.
Of course, the visual zones are not arbitrary: as we read, we typically look down a little and bow our heads forward, so our eyes look right through the bottom of the goggles. On the other hand, when looking into the distance, the eyes are more likely to look through the upper area of a spectacle lens.
Personal viewing habits
The personal viewing habits can also be considered in the production of spectacle lenses. These parameters have a strong influence on the subjective feeling and thus provide an even better visual impression. These high-tech optical products are enriched with features and look like traditional single-vision lenses. In the right version they look extremely elegant and modern. Her true abilities are not to be seen in these glasses.
The right eyeglass frame
Speaking of version: This is largely freely selectable in the progressive lenses. However, a certain minimum size should not be undercut otherwise the different vision zones will be too small. The result: the eye has to aim very precisely through the different areas when looking, which is tiring in the long run. Thus, the good visual comfort that modern production methods make possible would quickly disappear again.
Which eyewear frames are particularly suitable for progressive lenses? For this question, the optician is the right person to contact.
the essentials in brief
- Nowadays, progressive lenses can be manufactured so individually adapted to the personal viewing habits that incompatibilities hardly occur anymore.
- We are all potential "candidates" for progressive lenses: From the age of about 40 to 50 years, the eyesight and the adaptability of the eye diminish.
