Regular physical exercise

Successful aging is largely dependent on daily physical activity. Not only muscle and bone mass is preserved by regular physical activity, also the risk of chronic diseases is reduced. These include cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, colon cancer, osteoporosis, back problems and obesity.

In addition, exercise in many diseases promotes therapy and rehabilitation. It is generally accepted that regular exercise is the most cost-effective preventive measure.

Sweat every day

It is estimated that approximately 90 percent of over-50s could benefit from a physically active life. However, the Germans almost always move too little. Only at about 13%, a minimum of movement is achieved, which is considered beneficial to health. This is a half hour of exercise on at least three days a week.

Activity should increase pulse rate and respiratory rate and cause mild sweating. Some endurance sports are considered particularly favorable. These include:

  • swim
  • To go biking
  • jog
  • rowing
  • cross-country skiing

However, positive health effects can also be achieved by spending half an hour walking briskly a day. Especially for beginners and in advanced age, this is a good way to achieve the desired movement.

It's never too late to get active

We all wish to live healthy, active and independent until old age. Whether this wish comes true is not natural and predetermined, but is significantly influenced by the living conditions and lifestyle in the different phases of our lives. A healthy diet, adequate physical activity and the avoidance of obesity are important prerequisites to spend many healthy years of life.

While every phase in a person's life is important for healthy aging, it is never too late to set the course. Also, you will not be able to make any changes from one day to the next. It is important to start alone and to have the goal in mind.
