Erectile dysfunction

Problems with potency are a constant companion in many German bedrooms. Around one in ten men does not experience a satisfying sexual act because his penis does not sufficiently stiffen or the erection only lasts for a short time. Yet despite their incidence, erectile dysfunction (ED), also known as impotence or erectile dysfunction, remains a taboo subject.

Erectile dysfunction (ED) or colloquial impotence (obsolete: impotentia coeundi) is common and increases with age. Of the 20 to 30 year olds, about two percent are affected; from one age over 60 already about one quarter to half of the men. These numbers are estimates, because not every man with erectile dysfunction also visits a doctor.

However, the fact is that erectile dysfunction is the most common sexual disorder for which counseling is sought. The causes are many. They can be mental or physical, often there is a mixture of several factors.

Erectile dysfunction is treatable

There are various options available for therapy - from tablets that increase erectile function to mechanical aids and surgical interventions. Depending on the cause and need also sexual psychological therapies are used.

Erectile dysfunction should be taken seriously as it can be a sign of serious physical illness. Therefore: In erectile dysfunction is not a false shame, but the fast course to the doctor indicated.
