Depression - development and frequency

How does depression develop?

On the other hand, one suspects a genetic component that is inherited - but only the predisposition to develop a depression may be inheritable, but not the actual expression. How common are depression?

Depression is now so common that it speaks of a widespread disease. Current figures speak of about five to six million depressed people in Germany. In this case, the depressive phase can occur once (at about 25-40 percent), there may be several phases of the disease, between which the person is recovering - but unfortunately there is also a chronic course (at 10 to 15 percent).

Basically, the depression is a serious illness, because the sad mood can lead to disability or even suicidal thoughts.
