Clenbuterol

The active substance Clenbuterol is used primarily in medicines for the treatment of asthma. It relaxes the respiratory muscles and so relieves the spasm in an asthma attack. However, because of the high-dose fat burning properties of Clenbuterol, this ingredient is also often taken by bodybuilders. Professional athletes not only want to lose weight with Clenbuterol, but also rely on its anabolic effect: By slowing down protein breakdown, it helps to enlarge the muscle cells. This allows faster muscle growth. However, Clenbuterol is not one of the anabolic steroids, but the substance class of beta-2-agonists.

Clenbuterol side effects

Since it is not a hormone preparation, the side effect potential of Clenbuterol is much lower and is often not taken seriously by the athletes. While doping with Clenbuterol may lead to muscle tremors, excessive sweating, headache, insomnia, high blood pressure and nausea. These side effects, however, usually after one to two weeks after, as soon as one gets used to the drug.

Nevertheless, Clenbuterol is a prescription drug that can only be used under medical supervision and at the prescribed dosage. Otherwise, long-term damage to the lungs, heart and other internal organs may be possible.

Doping with Clenbuterol

Apart from that, doping with Clenbuterol is usually successful only with competitive athletes. Unsportsmanlike, overweight people usually lose weight with Clenbuterol - if at all - only short-term successes.

Probably the most famous case of Clenbuterol doping is the two-time sprint world champion Katrin Krabbe. It was found in 1992, the ingestion of the performance-enhancing agent. Since then, the abuse of clenbuterol by sharp controls within the EU has declined sharply. Also in the animal fattening there are always scandals, in which the active substance clenbuterol is given illegally to animals to produce lean meat.
