Chirotherapy: forms of therapy

What is done with which therapy?

In a manual treatment, the hands of the treating therapist are basically the most important working tool. He has learned in his training a variety of research methods and treatments to remedy a malady on the body of his patient. Nevertheless, the forms of therapy differ, as they are partly based on different theoretical principles.

Manual medicine / Chiropractic

Manual medicine / chirotherapy is based on the understanding that disorders of the spine or other joints are identified by special tests and can be remedied with manipulative and mobilizing manipulations - over 100 of them exist.

The spine, with its many vertebral bones, joints, ligaments and muscles, is a complicated construction. In order for it to function properly, the interaction between all structures must run smoothly. As soon as tension or joint blockages occur - which is often the case with our back-friendly everyday life - these can be effectively eliminated by manual medicine.

In practice, it is particularly taken into account that the manipulation in the disturbed region is carried out with a short path, for a short time and with little force, in order to protect the tissue.

Chiropractic and Kinesiology

Chiropractic and kinesiology also use this theoretical basis. However, kinesiology also draws on other concepts such as acupuncture, craniosacral therapy and homeopathy.

For them, the function of the individual muscles, especially in comparison to the opposite side, is crucial for the therapy in which certain muscles and / or acupuncture points are then stimulated. The muscles are tested with a detailed muscle test.

Physiotherapy techniques and osteopathy

The physiotherapy techniques of Bruges, Brunkow, Cyriax, Janda, Maitland, and McKenzie incorporate various mobilization and manipulation techniques and put the theory of manual medicine into action.

Although osteopathy with its lower forms also treats movement restrictions of the body, however, the part comparable to manual medicine, parietal osteopathy, represents only one area. The concept of osteopathy goes beyond purely movement disorders caused by joints, bones and muscles. out.

It assumes that all tissues in the body, because they are connected by connective tissue, nerves and blood vessels, can interact with each other and disturbances of these tissue connections - whether in the viscera (visceral osteopathy) or in the area of the brain and skull bones ( Kraniosakraltherapie) - can be influenced by targeted manipulation from the outside. The individual handles are not necessarily to eliminate the disorder, but partially activate only the self-healing powers of the body.

In the Dorn therapy, the manual neurotherapy, the Bowtech and Rolfing handles are used, which partly correspond to those of the manual medicine or represent modifications, partly originate from the respective intellectual author of the method.
