Brottrunk®: the probiotic fermentation drink

For centuries, fermented drinks made from bread have been known in Russia, and they are becoming more popular here as well. The probiotic fermentation drink Brottrunk ® has health-promoting properties and can, for example, help with constipation, bowel problems or colds. Read here what is in Brottrunk ® and how healthy it really is.

What is Brottrunk ® ?

Brottrunk ® is made from the ingredients water and wholegrain bread (natural sourdough from organically grown grain). In the case of lactic acid bacteria (lactobacilli), fermentation produces lactic acid, which lowers the pH and is responsible for the typical acidic taste of the drink.

Although fermented drinks made of bread exist in many forms, Brottrunk ® is a protected brand and is always produced according to a recipe developed by master baker Wilhelm Kanne. The drink can be bought in health food stores, drugstores or health food stores.

Probiotics in bread drink ®

Brottrunk ® is one of the probiotic foods. These contain special microorganisms called probiotics. Probiotics are able to reach the intestine alive. For this they must be sufficiently stomach and bile acid tolerant and resistant to digestive enzymes.

For example, strains of the genera Lactobacillus (lactic acid bacteria) and bifidobacteria are used as probiotics. The probiotic drink Brottrunk ® contains among others the lactic acid bacterium Lactobacillus reuteri.

Effect on cholesterol levels

Brotdruck ® is attributed to a wide variety of health effects. For example, it should help reduce cholesterol.

In a study with mice, the lactic acid bacteria caused a reduction in the cholesterol level or prevented its increase. Unlike most lactic acid bacteria, the cholesterol-lowering effect continued even after the probiotic diet was discontinued. The Lactobacillus reuteri thus has a lasting effect on the cholesterol level [1].

This is how Brottrunk ® affects your health

The lactic acid contained in Brottrunk ® can also strengthen the body's defenses. In addition, it stimulates the bowel movements and thus has a digestive effect, such as diarrhea or constipation.

In addition, the fermentation beverage may possibly support the treatment of chronic diseases such as atopic dermatitis or psoriasis, as reported, inter alia, the Federal Association of Neurodermatitis patients. Furthermore, a Brottrunk® cure for hay fever [2] and asthma should help as well as accelerate the healing of acne.

Even with the external application, such as to combat athlete's foot, sufferers have already had good experiences.

Suitable for losing weight?

Brottrunk ® has a very low energy content with 6 kilocalories per 100 milliliters. In addition to its health-promoting properties, it is also suitable as a low-calorie thirst quencher, if you want to lose weight and looking for a change to drinking mineral water or tea.

Due to the digestive effect of lactic acid and its beneficial effect on the intestinal flora, Brottrunk ® is also used for fasting and detoxification as well as for colon cleansing. The trunk is even used to detoxify the liver.

Ingredients of Brottrunk ®

Brottrunk ® has a few other valuable ingredients in addition to the probiotic lactic acid bacteria, enzymes and yeasts, for example:

  • Minerals such as zinc, iron, magnesium and manganese
  • Vitamins such as vitamins B1, B2 and B12
  • Amino acids such as proline and leucine

However, all nutrients are not contained in excessive amounts, so the drink makes no special contribution to the supply of minerals and vitamins.

Application: What should be considered?

Supporters of the drink recommend to drink Brottrunk ® daily, so that the intestine is continuously supplied with the lactic acid bacteria. The manufacturer advises to drink a small glass (0.1 to 0.2 liters) with meals.

The taste of the drink is often compared with sauerkraut juice. If you do not like the sour taste, you can dilute the drink with water or apple juice. In addition, it is advisable to drink and store Brottrunk ® always chilled - in the refrigerator, the beverage is about eight days after opening open.

In spite of the sour taste Brottrunk ® becomes basic in the body. Its pH is about 3.0.

Origin of the Brottrunks ®

The tradition of fermenting bread with water comes from Russia. However, this so-called kvass is strongly alcoholic and means translated as "sour potion".

The Brottrunk ® sold in Germany since 1981, on the other hand, is produced without milk, ie without the development of alcohol. He is not only alcohol free, but also vegan.
