Bromhidrosis and hypohidrosis

Particularly unpleasant fall on people whose sweat smells bad unpleasant. They are affected by bromhidrosis. The strong smell is caused by bacteria, which decompose the secretion of sweat on the skin. Those affected are particularly heavily burdened in their social life and often have to deal with mental concomitant symptoms: they are often marginalized at work and in their free time and are socially isolated.

Bromhidrosis - strong smelling sweat

Most bromhidrosis is associated with increased sweat production. There can also be an illness behind foul-smelling welding; even some medications change the smell of sweat. Especially if a Bromhidrosis occurs in you, you should consult a doctor as soon as possible. Therapeutic options range from simple, simple methods of treatment to surgical intervention.

Therapy for Bromhidrosis

A bromhidrosis for which no other cause has been found must be treated by the dermatologist. To protect against sweat and bacteria, the underarm hair is shaved. Subsequently, an alcoholic solution is applied. Since the axillary region is very sensitive, shaving and treatment must be done very carefully so as not to irritate the stressed skin any further.

In very severe cases, it is possible to surgically remove the sweat glands or cut off the connection to the nerves that control the sweat glands. Depending on whether the excessive sweating is a matter of assessment or has psychological causes, a psychotherapeutic treatment is also possible.

Hypohidrosis - reduced sweating

A reduced sweating or sweat secretion as in hypohidrosis is rarely pathological. However, there are diseases in which reduced sweating to total anhidrosis is a symptom symptom causing discomfort: very dry skin that ages rapidly and tends to be damaged, reduces tear and saliva production, sensitivity to temperature changes (both Cold and heat are poorly tolerated), the tendency to heat build-up and fever.

Such hypohidrosis occurs, for example, in Fabry disease, diabetes, as a result of nerve damage or skin diseases, but it may also be one of side effects of certain drugs (for example, antidepressants). Therapeutically, one can only do something symptomatically against the dry skin in hypohidrosis.
