The pineapple loves bright sun and high, tropical temperatures. A ripe pineapple tastes accordingly exotic, sweet and juicy. In addition to the delicious taste of the tropical fruit is also a beauty and slimming: Pineapple is full of nutrients and strengthens the immune system, lowers blood pressure, lifts the mood and regulates digestion. Since pineapple also stimulates fat burning, many health-conscious people rely on the detoxifying effects of a pineapple diet.
Pineapple: calories and nutrients
In a pineapple stuck not only the plump energy of the sun, but also plenty of A vitamins, B vitamins and C vitamins. However, the high proportion of enzymes in pineapple is particularly appreciated: the healthy tropical fruit is rich in bromelin, amylase, perodixase and invertase. There are also numerous minerals and trace elements.
The enzymes support the protein digestion and stimulate fat burning, making the pineapple diet a popular way to lose weight. Although the pineapple contains between seven and 15 percent fructose depending on the degree of ripeness, it is immediately converted by the body into glucose and can thus be used directly. 100 grams of pineapple contain about 55 kilocalories - which makes them a healthy, low-calorie food.
Losing weight with the pineapple diet
Due to the purifying effect and the low calorie content in pineapple, the fruit is well suited for a diet day. A pineapple diet should not be carried out for more than one to two days as such a diet quickly becomes one-sided and lacks vital nutrients such as protein, fat and minerals such as iodine or zinc. The pineapple diet guarantees a quick weight loss, but this consists largely of water.
Pineapple is therefore less suitable for losing weight, but rather for conscious purifying. On such a diet day, up to two kilos of pineapple should be eaten raw or as a juice. If that's too one-sided, you can add other enzyme-rich foods like kiwis or papayas.
Shop pineapple properly
The pineapple ripens only slightly, which is why there are large qualitative differences in trade between pineapple and fruit introduced by boat. The former are harvested ripe and have a fruity, fresh, unadulterated taste. Cheap pineapple is usually harvested early and ripens slightly on the boat, which often makes the taste a bit sour.
In any case, this tropical fruit should smell intense when you buy and easily give the pulp at the touch of a finger. The leaves should be dark green, the fruit should be bright yellow to orange.
Tip: If the leaves are easy to pull out, the pineapple is ripe for consumption.
Since the fruits are sold mature, they should also be eaten relatively quickly after purchase. A pineapple should be stored at home for a maximum of two to three days.
Cut pineapple - this is how it works!
To cut a pineapple, follow these steps:
- First, cut off the green stalk.
- Then quarter the fruit lengthwise with a long knife.
- Cut out the woody center.
- The quarters of the pineapple can now be cut transversely into slices and bite down to the hard shell. Alternatively, you can cut off the slice before eating.
If there is anything left of the tropical fruit, it can be kept in the refrigerator under plastic wrap if necessary for up to three days.
Recipe: Pineapple cake for dessert
The pineapple is a versatile fruit and tastes not only fresh, but also as a preserve, ice cream, jam, juice, vinegar or wine.
A popular pineapple recipe is pineapple cake, which is well suited as a summer-fresh dessert. Under the following instructions, the delicious dessert succeeds:
- Beat a cup of cream with 200 grams of powdered sugar until stiff.
- Fold in a packet of quark.
- Peel a large pineapple and cut out seven slices from the middle. Dice the remaining pulp and add to the curd cream.
- Then place a cake ring around a sponge cake and spread with the cream. Decorate the pineapple slices decoratively.
- Let the finished cake rest for two hours in the fridge, then serve as a delicious pineapple dessert or coffee.
Origin and growth of the southern fruit
The origin of the pineapple is suspected in South America. Today it is grown in almost all tropical and subtropical countries, especially in Thailand and the Philippines. There, the fruits in various local varieties usually grow on large cultivation days.
The pineapple plant is a type of perennial with long, pointed, sharp leaves arranged in a rosette. In the middle, after about a year, a long inflorescence grows with over 100 flowers.
