With crisp cold temperatures in winter we often long for the summer with its warm weather. As soon as you go in the winter months in front of the door, you start to freeze. But that need not be! With a few tips and tricks you can make sure that you are warm and cozy even in winter. We have compiled the 10 best tips against cold in winter for you.

Tightening on the bulb principle

The best way to prevent winter cold is to wear the right clothes. Here, the onion principle has been proven since grandma's time: So do not just put on a thick wool sweater, but rather pull several layers over each other. It is ideal if you wear several thin layers - for example, an undershirt, a T-shirt and a medium-warm sweater. Between the individual layers an insulating layer can form, which ensures that we do not freeze. In addition, the onion principle also has the advantage that we can better adapt to different temperatures throughout the day.

Choose natural materials

When buying winter clothing, you should pay particular attention to the quality of the products, because not all materials warm equally well. Especially recommended are natural materials such as wool, down or sheepskin. They not only protect us from the cold temperatures in winter, but are also usually quite breathable. This ensures that the moisture, but not the body heat, is transported to the outside. On the other hand, in some synthetic fibers, you sweat quickly and also freeze more easily, because when your skin is wet, you feel cold faster.

Make hot water bottle

If you are really frozen, a hot water bottle can help you to heat up again. Never fill the hot water bottle with boiling water, otherwise it could cause burns. As an alternative to the hot water bottle, you can also heat a cherry stone cushion in the oven for a short time. If you feel cold in the evening, you can also take the hot water bottle to bed with you. It is best to put the hot water bottle on your feet, because sleep researchers have found that cold feet hinder sleep.

Massages promote blood circulation

If you are feeling cold in the winter, then massages with warming oils are exactly the right thing for you. Rosemary oil, for example, is particularly beneficial as it promotes the circulation of the skin and thus provides pleasant warmth. In addition to rosemary oil arnica and ginger have a warming effect.

For daily use massage with a sponge or a brush is recommended. They also promote blood circulation and thus help against cold. Start on the outside of the right leg and work your way up slowly from the foot to the thigh. Then the inside is on the line. Do the same with the other leg as well as the two arms. At the end, massage the stomach in a circle in a clockwise direction.

Warm foot bath

A warm foot bath is recommended in winter, especially for cold feet. Especially beneficial is a rising foot bath. Start at 35 degrees and gradually warm the water to 42 degrees. Overall, the foot bath should take about 15 minutes.

For curing, however, alternating baths are well suited. To do this, fill a vessel ankle-deep with 15 degrees of cold water and one with 35 degrees of warm water. First put your feet in the warm water for two minutes and then switch to the cold container for 10 to 20 seconds. Repeat the procedure three or four times, then dry your feet and put on thick socks.

Ginger warms from the inside

If you freeze fast in winter, fiery spices can heat you up again. Ginger is particularly suitable. Take a cup of hot ginger water with a cold attack. The essential oils and pungent substances contained in the ginger ensure that you will feel warm and comfortable again from the inside. In addition to ginger, we also heat spices such as chilli, cayenne pepper and cinnamon from the inside. Give it a try with a hot spiced drink: boil 100 milliliters of water and 250 milliliters of milk with a piece of ginger root. Then add a quarter teaspoon of cardamom, turmeric, pepper and cinnamon.

Relaxing in the tub

A warm full bath not only helps in the winter against the cold, but also offers plenty of relaxation. Warming bath products such as rose or thyme oil can enhance the well-being effect even further. Make sure, however, that the bathwater is not warmer than 38 degrees. Do not bathe too long, otherwise the cycle can be overburdened. After bathing, it is best to put on a thick coat and rest on the sofa for at least half an hour.

Wear a cap

If you are feeling cold, you should always keep a hat in winter. Because on the face and on the scalp especially many nerve endings, so you feel the cold particularly clearly. A warm headgear is therefore extremely useful. Also, be sure to always bring a scarf and warm gloves. For those who often have cold fingers, mittens are better suited than finger gloves.

Avoid cool foods

In traditional Chinese medicine, a distinction is made between warming and cooling foods. In winter, you should prefer to access to warming foods, as they should warm from the inside. These include soups and stews, but also foods such as red meat or vegetables such as leek and pumpkin. Cool foods should be avoided if you are often cold. So get away from citrus fruits, but also from dairy products such as yoghurt and cottage cheese as well as leafy lettuce.

Get out in the air

Even if it's hard in cold winter weather - get yourself up and go for a breather in the fresh air. Thanks to the movement, the blood circulation is boosted and the feeling of cold quickly fades. Through a regular change of cold and warm not only the immune system is strengthened, but the body freezes with time less. When going for a walk, be sure to adjust your clothes to the current weather conditions.
