Plastic surgery has become increasingly popular in the United States. Here are the three most popular procedures, based on the number performed each year.
Cosmetic surgery, also known as plastic surgery, has become extremely popular in the United States. There are several reasons for this growth, ranging from social pressure to increased marketing of surgeons.
But it is beyond the scope of this article to judge for or against this procedure, or to speculate on the reasons for their popularity. Instead, I will list the three most popular cosmetic surgery in the U.S., explain how they work, and give you an idea of what they cost. So here they are in no particular order.
Rhinoplasty
The process - a short lesson in word origin. “Rhino” comes from the Greek word for nose. “Plastic” refers to the act of resins or something. Combine them and you have a process that shapes the nose, commonly known as nose jobs. To carry out this procedure, the surgeon will make a small cut below the nose and extending into the nostrils. This allows the surgeon to access (and transform) certain areas within the cartilage of the nose.
The popularity - The nose job is a very popular form of cosmetic surgery in the U.S. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPs), there were almost 285000 in 2007.
The cost - As with most plastic surgery procedures, the cost of breast augmentation, depends on various factors. The geographical location, the level of demand from consumers and the surgeon experience all play a role. Based on my research, the average cost of rhinoplasty at around $ 6000, but could run as high as $ 12000 in places with higher demand (think Beverly Hills and Los Angeles).
Breast Augmentation
The process - Commonly referred to as the “Boob job, breast augmentation is a simple procedure that uses synthetic implants to increase a woman’s breast size. The two types of implants currently in the U.S., saline solution and silicon. Saline implants are safer than the possibility of the two, while silicon implants are said to feel natural.
The popularity - The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPs), there were approximately 212000 breast augmentation procedures in 2000. Seven years later, in 2007 there were more than 347000 of these operations. This is one of the fastest growing of all cosmetic surgery.

Liposuction
The process - Liposuction is a process by which a surgeon uses a suction device to remove unwanted fat. The price - There are various forms of liposuction, and it can be in different parts of the body. Add to that the differences in consumer demand, a surgeon availability and other factors, and you have a wide range of costs. This article is not to trivialize plastic surgery, but only to chronicle his growing popularity within the United States.
